Wednesday

:) look I smiled.

Contextual researching and doodling pointlessly all day I decided I wanted to do something graphically. That's probably not even a word but anyway.

So I just started writing. not anything in particular just writing. rubbish really but I thought it could go somewhere, and it did.

I decided I wanted to make an ad for the underground. A real ad though.

First I made some letters in paint

Then I got the tube map

Then sticking the two together I had a simple ad
Not one like this....

But more like this...

If you've ever been in the London underground you would understand. Its hot, busy and people suck.
So I guess I was inspired by myself?

I think these would be pretty cool as a pattern on material toooooooooooooooooooooo.

Things I'm working on...

WHY DON'T I BLOG MORE OFTEN!  (slight adrenaline rush)

After a good kick up the arse the last day during a tutorial I have decided that I actually need to finish the things I start otherwise I will have nothing to show for myself next month.
On that note here are a few things I'm working on that I WILL finish.

......to be continued

Something I made which turned into crap and didn't look anything like it did in my head and I really didn't like it so I got annoyed with it and left if for a while then came back to it just to finish it but it still looked like shit but I decided to document it anyway because that's what your supposed to do even if it is a pile of bollox....

Here it is............

And here's what I did with it...

but here's what I would like to do with it...

That's all.

Body networks?

I was recently introduced to an artist named Jenny Saville who also experimented with mapping. However her mapping was done in a slightly different (could be called weird) way. Jenny drew on large women. Mapped out their bodies and then painted them from awkward angles. Strange as hell but the finished result was worth it. The painting shown below is called  plan.
(viewer's discretion advised)

Taking inspiration from this I decided to find a map on my body. Now don't worry i'm not going to strip nude, draw all over myself and take pictures in less than flattering angles. I opted for more discreet images actually going back a little to the start of my project where I had focused on body movements for a while.

Our hands , in a way, are a map of our life. (well so those psychic people tell you anyway) You use them everyday, take them everywhere with you and if you look closely a map of its own forms in your palms after years of living.

Do peoples ''hand maps''differ depending on their age, lifestyle, where they have been or what they have been through? ....
Now that's a question.

*New idea.

Wednesday

Using My networks..

So, last week I did nothing.Pretty much. Essays took over my life for the entire week and I didn't want to start anything arty because I couldn't focus long enough on it to do it properly...buuuuut now all my essays are done and I started my week off by taking some photos through a small wire cube with wool through it. That really doesn't sound exciting though does it? it came out ok though I promise. Have a gawk....

Oh and you know that camera/screeny thing at reception in college...looook

Saturday

Some things take forever..

For the past week I've been working on some stop motion videos. aaaaah. They take so long to do. (note to self: invest in a tripod)
Here is the one I've been working on :)

I've been looking for inspiration from other artists. I managed to come across this clip:

This guy is amazing. His name is David Ellis and does alot of what he calls 'Motion Painting'
Would love to be able to do a huuuuge stop motion like this one.
Amaazeballs.

Tuesday

Galavanting around the college..

Tubes = a network...... or so I think anyway.
I set out to find different networks around the college ( see below ). On my travels I found wool, wire, cables, scarves, electric things, twigs and steel. Lucky me.

What have these got to do with my project? Good question.
Well, I want to start breaking down the tube line and exploring the individual parts. Possibly putting them into different contexts?

P.S...Working on another stop motion  ;)
